In his second solo exhibition at Galerie Tassilo Usner in Salzburg, Moritz Berg presents new paintings and sculptures under the title "Le vent se lève ! Il faut tenter de vivre !" — works that emerge from a close observation of his surroundings. The focus here is not on depicting a place, but on the question of what traces an encounter with a place can leave behind.
The starting point for the works are fleeting and often inconspicuous moments — a gust of air, the pink of evening, or wandering shadows. The surroundings appear here not as a motif to be depicted, but as an active component of the creative process. Out of these encounters arise works in which the traces of these experiences merge with observation, memory, and artistic decision-making. The place-related titles of the paintings ultimately anchor these experiences in time and space.
Berg's painting moves between intuition and deliberate composition. It turns its gaze toward what is easily overlooked in everyday life, making visible how perception can change through attention. It brings forth atmospheres and connections that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. The things themselves remain the same. What changes is the way we encounter them.
