About the artist
Simon Kubik born 1998 in Vienna is a painter and conceptual Artist working and living in Vienna, Austria. His work ranges from figurative, semi-abstract oil paintings to installations and sculptures with ready-made aesthetics. Kubik studied Transmedia Art the University of Applied Arts, Vienna and has shown his work in different cities, such as Los Angeles at Wonzimer Gallery, the ModA Space in New York, in Rome at the Contemporary Cluster, on the Barcelona and Venice Art fair, in Seoul at the Future Conference, in San Francisco at SFAI, in Vienna at the Museum of Applied Arts or the Parallel Art Fair, Vilnius, Salzburg, Athens, Busan and Berlin.
At the heart of his painting practice is a question about how we actually see. Rather than treating an image as something we simply perceive, his work explores the idea that we register shapes and intensities of light in relation to one another, a kind of reduced impressionism. Each painting becomes an experiment in finding the most honest amount of paint needed to capture that experience, no more and no less.
Simon Kubik was a nominee for Strabag Art Award 2024 and won the Prism Art Prize 2023 in Italy. As he was part of charity auctions of PeopleShare and ICEP x Sotheby‘s.
Private tours are available now through August 19th.
