Gemma Solà Sotos in the latest edition of PARNASS Magazine`s „UP&COMING“ Special

The article:

"The magic of things - how emotion, memory and chance are transformed into color and surface? In Gemma Solà Soto's quiet language of the everyday. Soft colors, everyday objects, open spaces: Gemma Solà Sotos (*1993) combines humor with existential gravity in her painting. "Lightness and heaviness can exist in the same space," she says.

Her works - often with chairs, chess pieces or glasses - seem familiar and yet remote:

"These everyday objects carry a quiet emotional heaviness. They are vessels for multi-layered meanings."

The Barcelona-born artist works in a process-oriented, spontaneous way, using acrylic, airbrush, oil pastels and graphic overlays.

"Chance plays an important role - especially with airbrushing, which softens edges and creates dreamy transitions."

The open becomes the principle. Empty spaces and surfaces left blank "stretch time" and invite reflection.

"I want to mix reality with fiction - not to clarify, but to ask questions."

Her themes range from identity and retrospection to the quiet poetry of everyday life. What seems simple is often deeply coded - with memories, emotions, inner tensions.

Living between Vienna, Munich and Barcelona, her paintings are like mental travel spaces:

"The different places help me to switch more freely between clarity and ambiguity, abstraction and figuration."

Gemma Solà Sotos studied in Barcelona and Munich (Hildebrandt class) and lives in Vienna. At the end of 2025, she will be showing a solo exhibition at Galerie Tassilo Usner." - PARNASS
