SPARK Art Fair

Marx Halle Wien, 20 - 23 March 2025
Overview

Our first participation at SPARK Art Fair Vienna.

For this occasion, we showcased an exclusive selection of works by Spanish-born artist Gemma Solà Sotos.

Gemma Solà Soto’s latest body of work explored themes of stillness, nostalgia, memory, and the emotional weight of everyday objects. Through paintings on canvas and paper, she constructed a visual language in which landscapes unfolded as vast, mystical, and empty expanses; clouds drifted away, chairs, glasses, chess pieces, and feet hovered between presence and absence.

The artist’s approach to painting was fluid and intuitive, layering acrylic, charcoal, and graphite to create compositions that oscillated between abstraction and figuration. Her use of the airbrush technique produced blurred, fading lines that imbued her works with a dreamlike quality. Reality and fiction blurred as pictorial elements shifted in meaning, evoking fading memories and a pervasive sense of nostalgia. Soft, serene colors contrasted with static, frozen scenes—this interplay of energy and inertia mirrored the generational search for stability in the face of uncertainty.

This selection of new works invited viewers into a space of quiet tension, where objects took on different meaning and time stretched indefinitely—a meditation on generational nostalgia, displacement, and the balance between presence and absence.

The presentation sold out during the first days of the fair, for more info about available works, please write an email to: tassilo@tassilo-usner.com
